Doubt - Kills Goal Achievement

What do you doubt about yourself?

Do you question your ability to live according to your Higher Self’s purpose? Your ego has been conditioned to question your higher self. It is an altruism that keeps us living our lives based on someone else’s beliefs and values. Life IS fair. Life is fair to those who HAVE NO DOUBT. Or more accurately, Life is fair to those who HAVE NO FEAR.

• What are your doubts?

• Do you question your ability to manifest a healthy life?

• Do you question your ability to have true love?

• Do you question your ability to have wild success in the vocation of your dreams?

• How do you limit yourself?

• What do you fearfailure or success?

Ironically if you fear success you fear failure and conversely if you fear failure you fear success. In the world of NO DOUBT there is no such thing as ‘failure.’ People who have NO DOUBTknow that if their effort didn’t product their desired goal they simply take a different approach until they reach their desired goal.

I promise WITHOUT DOUBT that if you are not succeeding today, there is a self-limiting block within your belief system or the belief system around you that needs to be replaced with a belief system of NO DOUBT or NO FEAR.

If you doubt or have fear, you hold back, you don’t go for it with all that you have. Those who BELIEVE they can do things, DO THEM. They do them because they have NO DOUBT that they can achieve their goal. So believe YOU CAN! “If You Think You CanYou Can. If You Think You Can’t [doubt] You’re Right!” Author unknown.

Did you see the movie, Indiana Jones . If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend you rent it and watch it twiceonce for enjoyment and the second time to learn how Indiana Jonesa somewhat unlikely personis highly successful in reaching his goal(s).

You will recall Indiana Jones is scared of snakes, rolling balls and spikes that kill people, and rats. Few people would disagree with Indiana Jones, many people would add spiders, beetles, scorpions and bats to the list. But these creatures all exist for a good reason. Indiana Joes, in spite of his fears, intentionally went to the places where snakes, rats, spikes, rolling balls, spiders and bats are likely to be. What does Indiana Jones prove to himself by doing what he did?

He proved his ABILITY to succeed despite all odds and in spite of his FEAR. He didn’t let his FEAR hold him back. FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real. He had incredible drive to succeed in finding the missing piece of a puzzle. He became a driven sleuth of sorts. Are you driven?

Indiana Jones is kind, yet rough. He isn’t always right. Notice that he doesn’t need to be right 100% to achieve his goal. Indiana Jones is humanin fact it is his willingness to acknowledge his vulnerability that makes him strong. He acknowledges his vulnerabilities, but doesn’t allow that to stop him from going after his goal.

Acknowledging your vulnerabilities and not allowing them to stop you from going after your goal(s) is the first step to having NO DOUBT. Think on your feetthus gathering evidence you can succeed one step at a time. As you succeed one step at a time, you are building common sense, which you can use again and again.

Any goal can be achieved by reviewing history and using the strategy best suited for the next goal.

Free Picture Editing for the Novice and Intermediate Photo Taker

As a technology guy, I’m often asked about the software I use for various applications. The most recently asked for application is “How do I edit my pictures after I take them with this neat new digital camera?” The simplest, best program I have found is one called Picasa offered free by Google. Why Picasa? Ease of use is the first reason, as it’s just double click on an image and you can crop, reduce red eye, or brighten a picture in just a few easy clicks. My favorite reason for using Picasa is one that has nothing to do with editing pictures, and everything to do with finding my pictures on my hard drive. When you first launch Picasa, it asks you if you want to search your whole hard drive for images. Definitely say yes, and you’ll be surprised at where some of your pictures might be hiding, as not everyone is as disciplined as me and puts all their photos in their My Photos folder on their hard drive.

Just as important as image editing is image re-sizing. Just because you have a shiny new digital camera does not mean that you should e-mail full MB shots to everyone in your address book. Instead, take the time to re-size your pictures before you send them so they don’t take hours for your friends with dial up to download, and so it doesn’t clog up your and your friend’s families inboxes. The easiest way to do this is with a neat little program called PicSizer. PicSizer allows you to re-size complete folders of images with just a few clicks. This is also a free piece of software, and one that is quite simple to use. Simply select the folder with the big pictures, select a new folder to put the smaller pictures in, select the size of the pictures you wish to re-size too (I recommend 25% or smaller of the original size) and away you go. Simple as that.

The last piece of software is one that is a little more advanced, but one that you can easily learn to use and love, and it’s called GIMPShop, a take-off on the $599 Adobe Photoshop product used by image editing professionals. You can do some cool editing with GIMPShop, things you can’t do with many other free applications. Oh yeah, did I mention, GIMPShop is free, just like all the other software I mentioned?

To find these great resources, it’s easiest to just go to http://www.google.com and insert the name of the software you’re looking for (Picasa, PicSizer, or GIMPShop) and you should be transported to the site you need to get the software to make it great!

Use Email Newsletters to Get Repeat Business

Lots of businesses focus on getting new customers to come visit their website but they don’t really think about keeping their existing customers coming back. Repeat customers can really add to your customer base and the word of mouth advertising that repeat customers can give you is great free promotion. So what can you do to keep your existing customers coming back? Using email newsletters is one way to keep your existing customers coming back to your site and buying more of your products. Once a customer has already bought your product in order to entice them to visit the site again you need to offer some added value that they get just for being customers. Offering them a coupon or some sort of special pricing in the email newsletter is one way to get them interested in going back to the website after they have purchased an item. You can also add content to the website that helps them use the product more effectively. Posting tutorials, how-to’s and other information about your product is a great way to get repeat customers and if you put that information in an email newsletter then people will know about it. But don’t post the entire article in the email newsletter. You should always post teaser articles in an email newsletter so that the reader will want to go back to your website to read the rest of the information. It’s important to always put a link to the website at the end of the teaser paragraph so that the reader can just click on that link and immediately be taken to the website to read the rest of the information. Teaser articles combined with special offers in an email newsletter can be a great way to get previous customers to go back to your website and buy more of your products.

In order to create the best email newsletter possible you should always use email newsletter software. Using email newsletter software will make it much easier for you to create a professional looking email newsletter because all you have to do is fill in some information here and there and put in the teaser articles. The email newsletter software will do all the formatting and it will be easy for you to see exactly what the customers will see so that you can tell if the email newsletter looks good and functions well or not. With email newsletter software you can change templates to change the appearance of the newsletter and to add color and some splashy graphics. In order to get customers attention your email newsletter will need to stand out from the rest of the email that your customers get and using email newsletter software is an easy way to get the style you need without a lot of hassle. You can even design custom coupons and promotional flyers to go inside your email newsletter using professional email newsletter software.

Avail Finance Through Personal Loans

Personal loans are designed for fulfilling your personal requirements. Personal loans are used for numerous purposes like for home improvement, higher education, debt consolidation, buying a car, holidays, etc.

Apart from the personal requirements as mentioned above, personal loans can also be used for business purposes. There are two main basic categories of personal loans which are secured and unsecured personal loans. The basic differences between these two are collateral. Secured personal loans require collateral as security, unlike unsecured personal loans where no security is required.

In case of secured personal loans, lenders offer a large amount of money. The loan amount depends largely upon the value of the property plus the equity. But borrowers get large sum as compared to unsecured loans. Borrowers also face the risk of repossession of their property in case of defaults in repayment.

All borrowers look for loans having lower interest rate. Lenders offer secured personal loans at low rate of interest and with a longer repayment period. In case of unsecured personal loans, though lenders do not require collateral but they offer loans at comparatively high rate of interest. Unsecured loans do not have any risk of repossession.

Borrowers with bad credit record can also apply for personal loans. Personal loans offer a large sum but it is preferable to calculate the amount you require. Taking loans larger than the required may cause problems like debt burden, bad credit, etc.

Gratify all your needs and demands with personal loans.

You Can't Fool A Horse

In the dating world many men and women put their potential partners to a “dog test,” whereby they introduce their date to their dog and see how the dog reacts to the stranger. If the dog reacts badly towards their date then a red flag is waved, whereas if the dog accepts the stranger instantly the opposite holds true. While many people look upon this test in a tongue-in-cheek manner, many dog owners actually do take it seriously. As they probably should!

Many animals, including horses, possess an uncanny ability to detect emotion as well as the inner nature of an individual. Whereas you may be able to slap a forced smile on your face and hide powerful negative emotions such as stress or anger from fellow humans, you won’t find it as easy to fool a horse! In fact I consider horses to be natural truth detectors due to their ability to read a person’s emotional state as well as their sincerity when it comes to a love for equines.

If one of my naturally friendly horses takes an instant dislike to someone out of the blue, 9 times out of 10 I’m going to respect my equine partner’s instincts. Horses generally do not possess vendettas or have reason to target anyone for no real reason - they tend to call them as they see them. If a horse usually takes a liking to visitors but holds a sudden aversion to one in particular, clearly the horse sees or detects something that I may not have initially caught.

When a horse enjoys your company, you’ll know it. When a horse trusts you, you’ll know it. And when a horse actually dislikes you, he will make sure you know it. I often state that the world would be a much better place if people were as brutally honest as horses. But I digress…

A proficient horseman at work should be cool, calm and collected, three essential qualities to maximize the productivity of a training session as well as create an all-around positive aura over human-horse interactions. Keep in mind that you are the horse’s leader, and as such the horse will take his cues from you. If you are agitated the horse will recognize something is wrong and either feel you are angry with him or you are annoyed with something else he cannot detect but probably should be also be concerned about. The horse will not be able to focus on the lesson or your requests well at all, nor will he be able to draw strength from you when he becomes concerned about a foreign object or behavioral request.

It is essential that you try not to visit or work with your horse when you are in a negative frame of mind since these undesirable emotions will disturb your equine partner. Try to take a few minutes, or even hours if necessary, to collect your emotions and clear your mind of life’s daily irritants.

When we see a loved one is feeling down, it often puts a damper on our day too since negativity tends to breed negativity. The same will happen with your horse, so do not underestimate your horse’s ability to detect your feelings.

Active Listening - A Key To Sales Success

Active listening is a two part process that builds trust in your prospects, customers or clients and helps them to become more focused and candid in their response to your questions. The following list outlines the activities that make up active listening skills.

Phase I

• Give solid dominant eye contact (right eye) when your customer is speaking.

• Murmur a lot and nod your head to let prospects “hear and see” that you are listening.

• Ask the customer to clarify a point that is not understood or is of further interest.

Phase II

• Paraphrase back what you have heard your customer say

(NOTE: paraphrasing doesn’t mean you agree with what is said, it just lets your prospects know you heard what was said.)

• State your impressions or feelings from what has been said.

In one of the laboratories in Washington, D.C., there is a great magnifying glass that measures over three feet across. It’s like the “sun glasses” we used to treasure when we were young. This great glass gathers the rays of the sun and then focuses them to a single point in space a few feet below. That single spot is so hot that it can melt through a steel plate as easily as a red-hot needle burns through paper. The terrific heat cannot be measured because it melts all instruments. It is just three feet of ordinary sunshine concentrated on a single point. Scattered, these rays are hardly felt, perhaps just pleasantly warm; concentrated, they can melt the strongest of all metals.

This magnifying glass is an example of the power of focused concentration. It also suggests to the serious sales professional a way to achieve the sales and cross-sales success you are seeking. If you want to improve any skill, including vital questioning and listening skills, you need the power of focused concentration to help you improve these important selling activities.

Improvement is almost assured when you focus on an activity for a period of time. By making a skill a priority and then setting aside some time to practice the technique each day, slowly you will burn the concept into your subconscious mind until you can perform it without even thinking about it (unconscious competence). Researchers tell us that it takes approximately 21 days to make or break a habit. Therefore, if you focus for about three weeks on your questioning and listening skills, you should be well on your way to developing some important and effective selling techniques.

Why not try focusing on your questioning or listening skills over the next three weeks. Set aside some time each day and then use some of the following activities to help you concentrate on improving your ability to learn more about your prospects, customers or clients.

1. Write down a series of questions that could help you better execute a sales transaction. Place them in a notebook, on cards, or in your day planner for easy reference. If you are at a loss for words, glance down at these questions to put the sales process back on track.

2. In each sales transaction, consciously record the number of times you respond to a prospect’s question without first redirecting the question to learn more about your prospect’s needs and mind set.

3. Practice questioning techniques on your family and friends. Consciously make an effort to improve your listening skills by practicing your questioning skills.

4. Ask co-workers to role-play with you so you can put into practice the questioning and listening techniques discussed in this training.

5. Using the list of questions you have prepared, role-play in your mind how they might be used with a variety of customers. Think of customers that you have dealt with in the past and apply these principles with 20/20 hindsight. By examining what you could have said, follow this new script to its logical conclusion inside your mind. What better place is there for you to practice perfection than in your own imagination?

Canadian Satellite Radio: Finally

In June, the CRTC granted satellite radio licenses to two groups - the CBC, which is partnered with New York-based Sirius, and CSR, which is partnered with Washington-based XM.

The federal cabinet has upheld the CRTC’s decision to issue two new satellite radio licenses. As part of the deal, all applicants agreed to include more Canadian and French-language material. This is typical of Canadian media regulations and has made headway for the satellite radio push and representation. Groups such as Liberal MPs, Quebecers and other cultural groups did have some opposition to the deal. “In effect, the Americans have won…This is a black day,” said Ian Morrison, spokesman for the lobby group Friends of Canadian Broadcasting.

Sirius Canada Inc. and Canadian Satellite Radio Inc. (CSR) say they are pleased. CSR CEO John Bitove said in a statement that his company intends to be a “proud” representation of Canadian business and satellite radio to the Prime Minister, the government and the country.

As per conditions of the licenses, The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) will begin holding hearings asking for public input on the new commitments. The decision was made by the CRTC in June however the issue has been a heated one as cabinet debated whether to uphold it. Cabinet had the option to approve it, reject it, or send it back for further review.

As part of the agreement, CSR and Sirius have been forces to increase the French-language influence and broadcasting. Both promise to include 8 Canadian channels, which are half English and half French.

Dynamic Workshops - Tips to Make Your Powerful Presentations

Even though giving an inspirational keynote is exciting, I realize as a speaker that motivation disappears within a couple of weeks and definitely within a month. This is why I prefer giving workshops. My favorite structure is to present a topic over a two to four week time period to allow for assignments and feedback which benefits everyone who attends. In this article I share some workshop tips that work for me, whether it is a one time workshop or an on-going workshop.

Use the AIDA formula when developing your workshop. AIDA is the acronym of the four major steps of a powerful presentation.

  • A stands for Attention. First, we need to get the attention of the attendees. Asking a question, starting with some music or an interactive activity (I sometimes have everyone stand up and stretch, or recite a rap piece together that I have posted).
  • Next, I stands for Interest. We must quickly establish, “What’s in it for me?” by piquing their interest and showing them the benefits of being there.
  • D stands for Desire. In this step we share the how-tos and ways for our participants to tackle a problem or get the results they seek, instilling the desire to tackle new approaches.
  • And, the last A stands for Action. The final step in any worthwhile presentation is the call to action. What are they going to do, what have they learned, and what actions will they start taking right now? You can ask them outright.

Involve the participants.

  • The more you can involve the workshop attendees, the more effective and dynamic your workshop will become. The guru of training techniques, Robert Pike, in his excellent and informative book, Creative Training Techniques Handbook states that, “People don’t argue with their own data.”
  • Pike suggests that at the beginning of our workshop, we involve them immediately by asking the question, “What kinds of problems do people have because they don’t ______ (Fill in the blank with the topic of your program, e.g. communicate effectively, exercise, know how to handle conflict, etc.)?” Then ask, “What happens when you and I do ______ (Fill in with the same topic as in the first question)?” Depending upon the time available, you can have someone write the answers on a flip chart, because these will be the benefits gained from the workshop.
  • When I work with a small group, I will often start with a fun activity and go around the circle of participants, having everyone answer. For example, I lead a workshop called, How to Discover Your Core Passion. I make a few opening comments, and then ask each person, in turn, to introduce him or herself, tell us what they did yesterday for a profession (this is actually their present career and/or job title) and then what they do today (this is just a dream job or a career that they pull out of the air - “famous author on tour,” “Hollywood star,” etc.). I tell them not to agonize over an answer, this is just for fun. Other questions and also keeping your audience involved throughout the workshop either with you and/or other participants will keep your workshop lively and meaningful.

Lawn Care Tips

A beautiful lawn does not come without some effort. Depending upon what type of soil you have, the amount of effort will vary. For instance when raising trees and shrubs, sandy or a gravel base soil is great. Landscape plants like well drained soiled. A lawn on the other hand is different. Lawn grasses grow constantly throughout the growing season, and need an ample supply of both nutrients and water.

The most basic of lawn care tips includes regular watering and fertilization is required to keep a lawn beautiful. If you’re lucky enough to have a lawn that was originally planted in good rich topsoil, you won’t have to work near as hard as somebody like me, who has a lawn that is planted in sandy gravel. The soil at our house has little nutritional value, nor does it have the ability to retain any amount of moisture. By mid May my lawn starts drying out. It is very difficult for us to keep our lawn looking nice.

Lawns are one area where a little clay in the soil is a good thing. Of course standing water is not good, but having soil that has the ability to retain some moisture is helpful. If you happen to be installing a new lawn, here’s a news flash from my lawn care tips that will make all the difference in the world: Add lots of organic matter before you install your new lawn if you have sand or gravel type soil. The easiest way to do this is to find some good rich topsoil and spread that over your existing soil.

Because most lawn grasses grow so vigorously, they need additional amounts of nutrients added in order to stay looking nice. Just use one of the four step programs offered by the fertilizer companies. Most of these programs also include weed control along with the fertilizer. Here in the north we basically have two concerns with weeds in our lawns.

Crabgrass can be a problem, and I do consider it a weed. In order to control crabgrass you must use a pre-emergent herbicide that will prevent the crabgrass seeds from germinating. In order for this herbicide to be effective you must apply it early in the spring while the soil temperature is still below 45 F.

Broadleaf weeds such as Dandelions are another problem, although fairly easy to control with a broadleaf weed control. Most broadleaf herbicides are mixed in with the fertilizers, and must be applied when the grass and weeds are damp. The wet foliage will cause the herbicide to stick to the weed, giving the herbicide time to be absorbed by the weed. Once absorbed the herbicide translocates through the weed plant and kills it completely.

These types of herbicides are considered “selective” since they seem to know the difference between a grass plant and a weed. That’s why they only kill the broadleaf weeds and not the grass itself. However, many people have different kinds of thick bladed grass in their lawn such as quack grass. Quack grass is on the ugly side, and can really detract from a lawn. The problem is, it is still in the grass family, and “selective” herbicides leave it alone because it is a card carrying member of the grass family.

So what’s a person to do?

In order to get rid of these thick bladed grasses you must use a “non-selective” herbicide, and “non-selective” herbicides don’t care who they kill. Well, at least that’s true in the plant kingdom. When you use a “non-selective” herbicide you must understand that everything that you spray is going to die, but it really is the only effective way to rid your lawn of undesirable thick bladed grasses. This type of treatment is effective if you have isolated areas that contain wide bladed grasses. You’ll have to spray all the grass in the area, then reseed with good quality grass seed.

My herbicide of choice for this type of spraying is RoundUp®. It is believed that RoundUp® does not have any residual effect, which means that it does not linger in the soil. That means that the new grass seed or the young grass plants will not be affected by the herbicide. Being a non-selective herbicide you must be careful when spraying, making sure that the spray does not drift onto other plants or lawn areas that you do not want to kill.

To keep the spray from drifting, adjust the nozzle so that the spray pattern is narrow with larger spray droplets. You do not want a fine atomized spray if there is danger of spray drift. It also helps to keep the pressure in the sprayer as low as possible. Pump the sprayer a minimum number of times, to keep the pressure low. You just want enough pressure to deliver the spray, but not atomize it to the point that it can be easily carried by the wind.
Buy a sprayer just for herbicides and mark it as such. You never want to spray plants with a sprayer that has been used for herbicides.

Once you have sprayed the area you want to kill, wait three days before doing anything else. After a period of three days the grasses that you sprayed may not look any different, but if they have been properly sprayed, they will die. It takes three days for the herbicide to translocate throughout the entire plant, then the plants will die. So even though the weeds and grass plants look fine, you can start digging and chopping and not worry about them growing back. If you start digging and chopping before the three day period you will interrupt the herbicide, and the weeds and grass you were trying to kill may come back.

If you happen to be installing a new lawn, make sure you spray all the weeds and thick bladed grasses before you start. Once you have the lawn installed, you sure don’t want to go through all the trouble of killing areas of your lawn and reseeding. If you make sure that all of these undesirables have been killed before you start, you’ll be way ahead of the game.

When selecting grass seed, you should always use a blend that is recommended for your area. Here in the north a popular blend contains fine bladed perennial rye grass, fescue, and blue grass. Keep in mind that it takes blue grass seeds 28 days to germinate, while most perennial rye grasses germinate in 5 or 6 days, so you never want to plant a lawn that is 100% Kentucky blue grass. Before the blue grass seeds have a chance to germinate, every kind of weed imaginable will already be actively growing in your lawn.

With a blend, the faster germinating grasses come up quickly, and act as a nurse crop for the slower germinating seeds. Having a blend also gives you some protection in case some new pest comes along that attacks certain types of grasses.

People often ask if they have to have their lawn hydro-seeded in order for it to be nice. The answer is no. Hydro-seed is not some kind of magic formula. It is nothing more than a fancy way to apply grass seed. A hydro-seeder is just a machine that mixes water, grass seed, fertilizer and mulch into a slurry that is sprayed onto your lawn. The ingredients are exactly the same that you would use if you seed by hand, with the exception of the mulch.

And contrary to popular belief, hydro-mulch is no better than good old fashioned straw. In my opinion straw is a much, much better mulch. The primary advantage to hydro-seed is that the grass seed is thoroughly soaked before it is applied, which assures germination. That’s a huge advantage if you’re seeding along a freeway where it is not practical to wet the seed after it has been applied. At your house, it really doesn’t mean much. Hand seeding works just fine.

With either method, you still have to water just as much once the seeding is done. Many people are led to believe that hydro-seed doesn’t have to be watered as much as hand seed. This is a huge misconception. If you fail to water hydro-seed once it is applied, it will still germinate and little tiny grass plants will appear. But just a few hours without water on a hot day, and those little tiny grass plants will wither and die. This is a big problem because once the seed has germinated, it is spent. All the water in the world will not make that spent seed produce another grass plant.

Hydro-seed has its benefits, but for the residential lawn it’s not all that important. Why do I claim that straw is a better mulch than hydro-mulch? Think about how the hydro-mulch is applied. It is mixed with the seed, fertilizer and water as a slurry, and sprayed on the lawn. The mulch has not been applied over top of the seed which is how mulch is supposed to be applied, it is all mixed together. Some of the seeds are under the mulch, and some of the seeds are on top of the mulch. Mulch can’t do much good when the seeds are resting up on top of it. They might as well be sun bathing!

Now think about the process of hand seeding. The seed is spread on the soil, then you should take a push broom and drag it backwards over top of the seeded area. This applies a very thin layer of soil over most of the seeds. Then you spread the straw over top of the soil. The pieces of straw are scattered in all directions, with many of them criss-crossing each other.

Remember the movie, “Honey I Shrunk the Kids”? The part where they are walking through the lawn and the blades of grass are huge compared to them? This is what it’s like to be a grass seed under a mulch of straw. Those little tiny grass seeds are lost under the straw, and that’s exactly what you want to protect them from the intense rays of the sun.

As the sun works its way across the sky the grass seeds actually receive filtered sunlight. Enough sun to warm the seeds so they grow, but also enough shade to protect the tender young grass plants. As the grass plants grow, they also raise the mulch with them to a degree, providing additional shade for the seeds that haven’t germinated yet. The shade that straw mulch provides also helps to retain the moisture around the seeds. Grass seeds will never get this kind of protection from hydro-mulch.

Another trait of hydro-seed is that as the slurry dries, it becomes a blanket over the lawn. In the event of a heavy rainfall, running water tends to get under this blanket and carry it away, leaving big areas with no seed at all. They make a glue that you can actually add to the hydro-seed mix, but my experience has shown that the glue will hold the hydro-seed in place a little longer, but when it does wash out much larger areas wash because they are glued together.

With hand seeding, each seed is independent, and they fall between the nooks and crannies of the soil. In the event of heavy rain, the running water must be severe enough to wash the soil away before the seeds can be moved. I’ve installed hundreds of lawns using both techniques, for the difference in cost I’ll take the hand seeded lawn any day.
