Poker sharks like to swarm the casino floors at certain times. It is a matter of pragmatics for the sharks to know when and where there will be enough fish at the poker tables to make it profitable for them to play. You need to remember that poker online sharks are all about the profit. Whenever you feel like you are slightly off your game, a shark will pick up on this. Moreover, sharks can tell when there is a high likelihood that there will be a lot of players that are feeling off of their game.
One of the prime times for sharks to swarm is around midnight in the big touristy poker rooms. The trend for sharks to swarm at midnight is particularly marked in Las Vegas, where tourists are eager to part with their hard earned cash. Poker sharks know that midnight is the time when tourists have fully taken advantage of the free drinks, gotten over their initial nervousness, and are starting to feel overconfident. All of these factors combine to make them easy targets for a professional like a online poker shark. My advice to you: avoid the casinos when you know that there may be a lot of sharks in the water.

Originally scheduled for a December 1 2009 decision on poker online, the enforcement of the Unlawful Internet Gambling and Enforcement ACT (UIGEA) has been delayed by The US Department of Treasury and Federal Reserve Board until June 1st. This extension seems to give people hope that there is a good chance of it being overturned in 6 months. At the minimum, the extension gives poker online opponents time to make their argument heard in Congress. Barney Frank, Chairman for the Financial Services Committee in the House of Representatives, stated that the delay will be a “chance to act in an unhurried manner on my legislation to undo this regulatory excess by the Bush Administration and to undo this ill-advised law.” The legislation he speaks of is twofold; the passing of HR 2266 and HR 2267 could lead to the regulation and licensing of casino online gambling. As it stands, if the UIGEA passes, it will impede all American financial institutions from processing transactions related to Internet gambling. However, while negotiations are ongoing, no clear resolution has been confirmed at the moment as the talks just recently resumed. Meanwhile, both poker rooms and poker players alike will wait anxiously in anticipation for Barney Frank’s new legislation to overturn the UIGEA to be heard in the House. We’ll keep you posted on any new happenings as the events unfold and become clearer.

poker online players who frequent casino onlines where the game is played face-to-face often complain that it’s impossible to pick up tells when playing poker online. Poker appears to be a simple card game that involves making a winning hand with five cards. But experienced players know that the game is much more complex than it appears at first glance.
There are many factors and a lot of information to consider while playing, and even those aspects vary from game to game or if its played online or at a casino. If the players are amateurs or simply looking for recreational fun, without any big stakes, then luck is probably the biggest factor since most people will chase after cards.
Savvy poker players looking to make a real profit play a whole different game. Since every poker game is a different situation, depending on the other players, you have to consider which set of factors and which information is most important for that game.
You have to adjust to your opponents’ different styles. That means observing their actions so your future decisions are based on what happened in the past. You must try to understand their motivations and strategies before making a move yourself. How deceptive are the other players? Is anyone aggressive? Is someone a chronic bluffer?
Also understand your own ability to process information quickly - an essential skill for winning poker. Recognize what is beyond your mental computing capacity, and filter out the information that is irrelevant for the here-and-now situation. Information overload can confound your thinking. This does not mean you should oversimplify the situation. Apply a filter as the game progresses to figure which factors are most important at any one moment: your opponents’ styles and past hand histories, your table position, and stack sizes.

No one wants to be known as a hit and run poker player in a cash game. Hit and run players are the ones who sit down and often play for just long enough to gain a profit they deem sizable, and then immediately get up from the table to ‘protect’ their winnings. Though poker is not necessarily a game where etiquette has to be adhered to, if you get a reputation as a hit and run player, often others who recognize you will not want to continue with you at the table, as they know if they lose their money to that player even in a bad beat, they will likely not have the chance to get their money back.
In the avoidance of this image, I often find myself sitting at a table longer than I want to when I hit a big hand near the end of session. This too I think is a mistake. While you shouldn’t always jump up when you’ve made a decent profit, you equally should not necessarily see a big pot win as a mandatory reason to stay at the table. If you were going to leave, leave. If you don’t feel comfortable at the table, there should be nothing that forces you to stay, as long as your reason for leaving is simply not that you intend to keep taking money off in such a manner, in a way that will gain you that reputation.
In general, the old maxim stands mostly true: if one maintains a general attitude of what they would like to see in other poker players, you will get back what you deserve.
